1. “Let’s Talk Climate: Listen, Read & Debate!”

Hello teachers, today I will share an activity with you, I hope you enjoy it!




In this activity, students will explore the topic of climate change through a podcast in English. They will practice their listening and reading skills while learning new vocabulary related to the environment. After completing a short task, students will take part in a team debate where they will share their opinions, agree or disagree with others, and reflect on possible solutions to help protect our planet. This engaging activity helps students improve their language skills while thinking critically about a global issue.

Objectives:

ü  To develop listening comprehension through an authentic podcast.

ü  To improve reading skills by completing comprehension-based activities.

ü  To encourage critical thinking and speaking through group discussion and debate.

 

Materials:

ü  Printed or digital worksheet with comprehension questions

ü  Pen and notebook (or digital document for notes)

Instructions:

In this activity, students will:

  1. Listen to a short podcast or news segment related to climate change (e.g. from BBC Learning English).
  2. Read and complete the attached comprehension questions and vocabulary exercises.
  3. Discuss and debate the topic in teams, giving their opinions and comparing points of view.

The activity promotes active listening, encourages engagement with real-world issues, and offers a meaningful context for using English in conversation.

Activity:

Students will begin by listening to a selected podcast episode and completing the attached reading-based activities. These tasks are designed to reinforce understanding of the content and key vocabulary.

After completing the exercises, the class will be divided into two teams. Each group will prepare and engage in a debate based on the podcast topic. Students will:

  • Share their personal opinions.
  • Discuss and reflect on the main ideas.
  • Identify points of agreement and disagreement with their peers.

 

Documents:
Ask students to write a short reflection or opinion paragraph about the topic discussed, using vocabulary from the activity.
